Nevada voters add abortion rights to state constitution as Question 6 passes

Nevada voters have added abortion rights to the state constitution by approving Question 6 on Tuesday's ballot. The measure blocks bans on abortion before fetal viability, which is usually considered after 21 weeks of pregnancy.

Nevada voters previously approved the same measure in 2024, but the state requires constitutional amendments to pass in two consecutive general elections before taking effect. Tuesday's vote finalizes that process.

The Nevada result was part of a broader national trend on Tuesday, as voters in more than one-fifth of states have now passed ballot measures protecting abortion rights since the U.S. Supreme Court overturned the nationwide right to abortion in 2022. Voters in Missouri and Virginia also approved abortion-rights measures on Tuesday.

In Missouri, voters rejected a proposed constitutional amendment that would have reimposed restrictions on most abortions, reaffirming their 2024 decision to undo an existing ban. In Virginia, voters approved an amendment creating a fundamental right to reproductive freedom in the state constitution, ensuring access during the first two trimesters.
