Nevada's Rosen joins US senators' push to safeguard elections

Sen. Jacky Rosen, D‑Nev., helped introduce the Protect Our Polls Act, a measure intended to shield American elections from federal military or law‑enforcement interference, her office said Monday. Rosen worked with Sens. Elissa Slotkin, D‑Mich.; Tammy Baldwin, D‑Wis.; Ruben Gallego, D‑Ariz.; Mark Kelly, D‑Ariz.; Amy Klobuchar, D‑Minn.; Alex Padilla, D‑Calif.; and Raphael Warnock, D‑Ga. on the legislation. No companion measure has been introduced in the House. The bill follows President Donald Trump’s threats to dispatch armed troops to polling places, a move that could intimidate eligible voters, and his push to federalize election administration, according to Rosen’s office. Federal law bars troops from polling sites to ensure voters can cast ballots free from intimidation, coercion or the show of governmental force.
