Individual performances stood out on Thursday. Brooklyn Nets rookie Mikel Brown Jr., the No. 6 overall pick in the 2026 NBA draft, led his team with 20 points and three assists in his first Summer League appearance against the Knicks. After a slow start, Brown heated up in the second half, hitting a deep three‑pointer near the half‑court logo to end the third quarter and igniting a streak of four consecutive three‑pointers on four straight field‑goal attempts. He played his lone college season with the Louisville Cardinals, earning ACC honors and rookie‑of‑the‑week accolades twice while averaging 18.2 points and 4.7 assists over 21 games.
Chicago Bulls forward Caleb Wilson, selected No. 4 overall in the NBA draft, delivered a historic debut, posting a team‑high 35 points—the most ever recorded by a player in his first Summer League game—along with three blocks and two steals. Despite the Bulls’ loss, Wilson shot 57 percent from the field on 21 attempts, including seven three‑pointers. In his final season with the North Carolina Tar Heels, he averaged 19.8 points and 9.4 rebounds per game.
Notable figures were spotted in the crowds. During Friday’s opening game between the Heat and Bucks, former Milwaukee forward Bobby Portis watched from the sideline. The 31‑year‑old spent six seasons with Milwaukee before being traded to Miami this offseason as part of a blockbuster deal that also sent Giannis Antetokounmpo to Miami in exchange for multiple first‑round draft picks and five players. Several Bucks acquisition pieces—Tyler Herro, Jaime Jaquez Jr. and Kel’el Ware—were also seen courtside.
Caitlin Clark and Aliyah Boston of the Indiana Fever attended the Pacers’ Summer League opener versus the Cavaliers. Clark did not play when the Fever defeated the Las Vegas Aces on July 5, but Indiana is set to return to Michelob Ultra Arena on Sunday as Las Vegas looks to advance the playoff series.
Reigning champion New York Knicks were represented courtside by Miles McBride, Mikal Bridges and Tyler Kolek, who took in the team’s Summer League opener against the Nets.
