The NBA and major U.S. sportsbooks have agreed to ban certain types of bets this season, including player prop parlays on the under for the same player’s statistics, according to a league memo sent to sportsbook partners. These wagers were featured in federal cases involving NBA players Jontay Porter and Terry Rozier.
The NBA also directed its official gaming partners DraftKings and FanDuel, and authorized operators including Caesars Sportsbook and BetMGM in Nevada, not to offer bets on other problematic markets, such as the winner of the opening tip and under wagers on players expected to play fewer than 12 minutes in a game.
Caesars Sportsbook confirmed it collaborated with the NBA on the memo and has eliminated the deemed problematic markets. A DraftKings spokesperson said the NBA’s new restrictions are already reflected in its practices and that it supports the league’s efforts to maintain game integrity.
NBA executive vice president Scott Kaufman-Ross told ESPN the league sought a balance between removing problematic bet types and avoiding pushing activity into the illegal market, adding that past issues informed the current restrictions.
