McTominay to miss Scotland games with minor heart issue

Scotland midfielder Scott McTominay will miss upcoming international fixtures after Napoli announced he requires a minor heart procedure following the detection of "a mild benign arrhythmia". The 29‑year‑old was taken off after 56 minutes of Napoli’s 2‑1 Serie A loss to Como on Sunday and will undergo corrective treatment "in the coming days". Napoli anticipates his return to action after the international break in early October. The absence rules him out of the first four matches under new Scotland head coach Sebastien Pocognoli: home and away fixtures against Slovenia, plus the games versus North Macedonia and Switzerland in the UEFA Nations League. According to the NHS, an arrhythmia is when the heart beats too fast or too slowly, or the heartbeat is not steady. Napoli said McTominay will undergo cardiac arrhythmia ablation - which the British Heart Foundation explain is when energy or cold energy is used to make tiny scars in the heart to block faulty signals and restore a normal heartbeat.
