Man convicted of 1986 Las Vegas murder dies in prison

William Berry, 77, died Wednesday at the Northern Nevada Correctional Center in Carson City while serving a life sentence without parole for the 1986 fatal shooting of Ricky Dunlap in Las Vegas, according to the Nevada Department of Corrections. He had been incarcerated since January 21, 1987, after a District Court jury convicted him in December 1986 of first‑degree murder. Prosecutors had pursued the death penalty. Berry, formerly of Las Vegas, was found guilty of the May 10, 1986, slaying of Dunlap, 20, described as a cause trader who was trying to merchantability cocaine, according to earlier Las Vegas Review‑Journal reporting. An autopsy was requested following his death.
