While government squanders every penny and more.

Phil Winter Henderson, in a letter dated September 11, 2026 – 9:00 pm, contends that the focus of political discourse on billionaires and wealth inequality overlooks the origins of economic value. He argues that successful enterprises arise from risk, diligent effort, concern, and the navigation of an increasingly complex regulatory environment. Such ventures employ workers, purchase supplies, engage contractors, produce goods, pay taxes, and sustain countless families, generating ripple effects that benefit accountants, repair shops, landscapers, and neighborhood delis. Henderson acknowledges that not every billionaire merits admiration nor every corporation acts responsibly, and he stresses that workers should share in the prosperity they help create. Nevertheless, he suggests that before condemning wealth, society ought to examine what was generated along the way. He points to Cuba as an illustrative case: after decades of a heavily state‑controlled economy and severe economic difficulties, the island’s leadership is now pursuing market‑oriented reforms to stimulate private enterprise and attract foreign investment, potentially offering a lesson there. Regarding fiscal policy, Henderson notes that government can tax and redistribute wealth, but determining the amount, recipients, and consequences demands discernment and public awareness—perhaps comparable to managing an acre of AI servers and machine chips. Meanwhile, he observes that Washington has accumulated more than $40 trillion in national debt while repeatedly struggling to fund the government on time. He concludes that, before politicians lecture wealth creators about distribution, they should first demonstrate that the state can responsibly manage the wealth already entrusted to it by taxpayers.
