Iran targets military bases as US launches wave of strikes

Explosions were heard across Iran overnight, shortly after neighbouring Gulf states began to report attacks.

On Tuesday, Trump warned that Iran’s vigor infrastructure would be targeted if Tehran failed to instrumentality to talks. Iran’s top negotiator, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, told state media that Tehran had “no reason” to abide by an immoderate statement that did not payment the country. He added that Iran’s national security depended on maintaining what he described as “Iranian arrangements” in the Strait of Hormuz. According to US Central Command, the latest strikes hit bid centres, air defence sites and coastal surveillance facilities across Iran, including the port area of Bandar Abbas and Greater Tunb Island. Explosions were reported throughout Iran and air defences activated in Tehran, Iranian state media said. Shortly afterward, Gulf allies disclosed related incidents—Kuwaiti forces said they intercepted drone attacks, while Bahrain’s interior ministry advised citizens to stay calm and move to the nearest safe location. The Iranian military also claimed it struck US communication systems and fuel storage facilities in Jordan during its latest round of strikes. Separately, US forces destroyed an empty, Curacao‑flagged oil tanker on Wednesday that was attempting to sail toward a blocked Iranian port, Central Command stated.
