Info sought on unaccounted for people caught in Grand Canyon flash flood The National Park Service is requesting information from the public about more than 20 individuals who may be missing or unaccounted for after a significant flash‑flood event occurred Saturday in Bright Angel Canyon and the Phantom Ranch area of Grand Canyon National Park. Park personnel, working in coordination with the Arizona Department of Public Safety, are continuing evacuation and search operations to account for anyone who might have been in the affected zone. The National Park Service asks anyone who knows of hikers or backpackers who were in the interior canyon along the Bright Angel Creek corridor on Saturday, or anyone who held a campground reservation in that corridor, to contact the National Park Service Investigative Services Branch. This includes people who may have been traveling on the North Kaibab Trail from the North Kaibab Trailhead to Phantom Ranch, staying at Bright Angel Campground, or moving through or staying in the area known as “the Box” north of Phantom Ranch. How to help If you are aware of anyone who might have been hiking or backpacking in these locations, please call the NPS Investigative Services Branch Tip Line at 888-653-0009. When submitting a tip, provide any details you have about the individual, such as their name, approximate location, travel plans, group size, clothing or backpack description, or the last time they were known to be in the area. You are not required to give your name.
