Adin Hill made 24 saves and the Golden Knights defeated the Ottawa Senators 3-1 Tuesday at T-Mobile Arena, ending a three-game losing streak. Hill, who may not have expected to start, got the call after Carter Hart left morning skate with an apparent lower-body injury. Coach Ryan Craig had no update on Hart's condition before the game.
The Knights recalled goaltender Cameron Whitehead from Henderson to back up Hill due to salary-cap constraints that also forced the reassignment of forward Jonas Røndbjerg. That move kept Raphael Lavoie in the lineup, and the 23-year-old broke a 1-1 tie with his first NHL goal with 11:59 remaining in the third period.
Braeden Bowman opened the scoring for Vegas (9-4-1) with a power-play goal with 9.4 seconds left in the second period. Ottawa's Shane Pinto tied it 34 seconds into the third on the man advantage, marking the sixth consecutive game the Knights have allowed a power-play goal.
Hill turned away the first 18 shots he faced through two periods, including a highlight-reel stop on Tim Stützle early in the second. He also collided with Ridly Grieg while playing the puck outside his crease during a potential shorthanded breakaway. William Karlsson and Jack Eichel added empty-net goals in the final two minutes to secure the win.
Jonas Johansson made 26 saves for the Senators (8-5-0). Hill improved to 5-1-0 on the season with a performance that steadied the Knights after a road trip that included an overtime loss to Columbus on Saturday.
