High Desert inmate dies in prison, officials say An inmate from Clark County died at High Desert State Prison in Indian Springs last week, authorities said. Joaquin Ramirez was pronounced dead at the facility on Thursday, the Nevada Department of Corrections announced in a press release issued Tuesday. He was 53 years old. Ramirez was serving a sentence of 180 months to life with the possibility of parole after being convicted of lewdness with a minor and attempted sexual battery against a victim younger than 16. According to a Las Vegas police arrest report, he admitted to having sexual contact with the victim and wrote an apology letter. Ramirez entered the prison on December 5, 2025. His next‑of‑kin was notified of his death.
