A groundbreaking ceremony for the Forever One Memorial, intended to honor the victims of the Oct. 1, 2017 mass shooting on the Las Vegas Strip, is scheduled for Friday afternoon. The event will take place at the intersection of Reno Avenue and Giles Street, just off Las Vegas Boulevard, on the property where the Route 91 Harvest country music festival was held. On the night of the shooting, a gunman opened fire from the 32nd floor of Mandalay Bay at approximately 10:05 p.m. A total of 60 victims died as a result. Initially, 58 concertgoers were killed and hundreds more were injured. Thirty‑one victims died at the scene, 27 succumbed to their injuries in area hospitals, and the final two victims passed away more than two years after the incident.
