Clark County firefighters rescued a pet cat and contained a heavy garage fire at a home in the southwest valley Thursday morning, according to the Clark County Fire Department.

Crews were dispatched around 8:47 a.m. to the 9000 block of Hawaiian Summer Street, near Eastern Avenue and Silverado Ranch Boulevard, following reports of a residential structure fire. Upon arrival, they encountered a heavily involved garage fire and immediately deployed hose lines while search teams entered the house to check for occupants.

Firefighters brought the blaze under control before it could spread further into the home. During the search, crews located a cat inside the residence and brought the animal outside safely.

Paramedics evaluated one person at the scene for minor injuries, but that individual was not transported to a hospital. A total of 30 firefighters responded, with assistance from NV Energy, Southwest Gas, and the American Red Cross.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation. Officials are asking drivers and residents to avoid the area as emergency crews clean the scene, and traffic remains impacted.
