Change at starting guard? Raiders rookie could get his chance

Raiders rookie Trey Zuhn III took reps with the first-team offensive line at right guard during Wednesday's practice, positioning himself to potentially start Sunday against the New York Jets at MetLife Stadium. The third-round pick from Texas A&M has worked at every offensive line position since joining the team and has appeared in six games this season, mostly as an extra lineman in heavy formations.

Coach Klint Kubiak declined to confirm a starting change but said the team will keep shaking up the offensive line until it finds the right mix. Both Jackson Powers-Johnson and Caleb Rogers have struggled at times when given opportunities at right guard, prompting the open competition Kubiak has emphasized each week.

Center Tyler Linderbaum praised Zuhn's versatility and work ethic, comparing him to former Ravens teammate Patrick Mekari. "Trey's been a guy that doesn't say much, but just comes in and works every day," Linderbaum said. "He's been asked to do a lot of things for us, which isn't really common for a rookie... but he's just a super smart player who comes in every day and works at it."

Right tackle DJ Glaze, who was limited Wednesday with an ankle injury, also expressed confidence in Zuhn. "He's been balling," Glaze said. "Puts his head down and goes to work every day. He's come in here and learned every position for us and the more you know, the easier it is to get opportunities."

Zuhn said he feels confident stepping in at guard after practicing at tackle and center as well. "If that's what the team needs, it's what I'm ready to do," he said. "I've just been taking every rep I can at practice doing whatever the team needs me."
