Bali police investigate after Australian man and children found dead in home

Bali police are investigating after the bodies of an Australian man and his two young children were found dead in a Kuta bungalow on Sunday. Damien John Shaw, 56, and his children—a six‑year‑old boy and a four‑year‑old girl—were discovered unresponsive inside the residence. Neighbours entered the property after receiving a worried call from Shaw’s wife, who said she had become anxious following a telephone conversation with her husband and could no longer reach him. She was not in Bali at the time. According to Australian media, authorities are treating the incident as a suspected murder‑suicide. Police told the BBC they have not yet established the cause or manner of death and that further forensic examinations will be conducted. The wife reportedly called a neighbour after hearing one of the children cry while she was on the phone with Shaw. After that call she was unable to contact him again. She had travelled to Jakarta in the days preceding the incident. The neighbour, joined by other local residents, forced entry after getting no response to their knocks. Inside, they found the three victims. Police said Shaw originated from Fremantle, Western Australia. Western Australia’s premier, Roger Cook, described the event as “a very confronting situation.” He added, “This is simply a precise bittersweet situation; our hearts spell retired to everyone involved.
