About one-third of Nevada’s registered voters had cast ballots in the midterm elections as of Friday, the final day for early in-person voting before Election Day on Tuesday. Secretary of State Francisco Aguilar said more than 660,000 voters had participated so far and encouraged those who have not yet voted to do so in person or by dropping completed mail ballots at a drop box.
Aguilar’s office reported that roughly 396,000 mail ballots had been returned out of about 2 million sent statewide. Another 300,000 Nevadans voted in person during the early period, with approximately 190,000 of those cast in Clark County. Popular early-voting sites included the Thunderbird Family Sports Complex in the northwest valley and the Galleria at Sunset mall in Henderson.
The partisan breakdown of returned ballots as of Friday night showed about 165,000 from Democrats, more than 117,000 from Republicans, and 113,684 from other affiliations. Nearly 5,000 returned mail ballots required signature verification, or curing, because signatures did not match records or were missing. The Clark County Election Department is contacting affected voters, who have until Nov. 9 to resolve the issue.
This election includes races for governor, other statewide offices, Congress, the Legislature, and local positions. Voters will also decide on Question 6, which would enshrine abortion rights in the state Constitution, and Question 7, which would implement voter ID requirements for future elections. Nevada offers same-day, in-person registration for inactive voters with a state ID and proof of residence.
Aguilar highlighted the state’s new real-time election dashboard at nvsos.gov/vivid, calling it “transparency you can see, and allows voters to get more engaged in the election process.” Ballots can be tracked at myballot.nv.gov.
