Foothill's boys tennis team won the program's first Class 4A team state title with a 10-7 victory over Northern champion Reno High at Bishop Manogue High in Reno. The Falcons, who entered as Southern Region champions, advanced by defeating Galena 10-3 in Friday's semifinals after rain on Thursday delayed the tournament's start. Foothill's path to the final included a 10-9 win over defending champion The Meadows in the Southern Region semifinals earlier this month, a match decided by a tiebreaker round.
Boulder City claimed its second consecutive Class 3A boys team state title and ninth overall, edging Northern champion Truckee 10-9 at Carson High. The Eagles, also Southern Region champions, secured the championship by winning the tiebreaker round 4-2. The victory places Boulder City alone in third place for the most boys team titles in state history.
Thursday's rain in Northern Nevada postponed the 4A and 3A boys and girls team semifinals to Friday, forcing schedule adjustments for the remainder of the team and individual tournaments. Because both 4A girls finalists are from Southern Nevada, The Meadows and Doral Academy will play for the state title at 4 p.m. Monday at The Meadows to allow more court availability at Manogue for individual events. Both schools won their state semifinal matches Friday.
In Class 3A individual competition, The Adelson School's Ido Goren and Boulder City's Jake Richards won their boys singles semifinals Saturday at Carson High and will meet for the state title at a time, date, and location to be determined next week. Adelson's Allegra Weir captured the 3A girls singles title with a 6-2, 6-1 win over South Tahoe's Shea Johnson. Results for 4A boys and girls singles and doubles and 3A doubles were not posted on the official NIAA bracket as of late Saturday afternoon.
