Temperatures to hit 25C in burst of late September warmth

Temperatures are set to reach 25 °C in a burst of late‑September warmth as a strong southerly airflow develops on Tuesday. Unusually hot air over France and Spain, where temperatures have widely exceeded 30 °C, will bring this warmth to the United Kingdom. Across England, temperatures will exceed 20 °C widely, with the highest readings in south‑east England reaching the mid‑20s Celsius. Average temperatures across England in late September are normally around 16 to 19 °C. While considerable cloud and a few showers may occur on Tuesday morning, sunny spells will develop across England and Wales. Conditions will also be warmer than average across Wales, Northern Ireland and Scotland, with maximum temperatures on Tuesday of 17 to 22 °C. After a sunny start, cloud will increase during the day. Southerly winds will strengthen, with gusts up to 50 mph expected in Northern Ireland and western Scotland. This pattern is linked to a large and deep area of low pressure moving northward in the eastern Atlantic toward Iceland.
