Southern Nevada inmate dies less than 2 months into sentence, officials say

An inmate at High Desert State Prison died several weeks after starting what was supposed to be an up to four year sentence, state corrections officials said.

A High Desert State Prison inmate died less than two months into his sentence, according to the Nevada Department of Corrections. Scott Trotta, 49, passed away on Aug. 31 at University Medical Center in Las Vegas, corrections officials said. Trotta began serving his term on July 17 after receiving a 19‑ to 48‑month sentence for failing to register as a convicted sex offender. The cause and manner of his death remain pending, the Clark County coroner’s office reported.
