A magnitude 3.3 earthquake struck northwest of Las Vegas early Thursday, with no immediate reports of injuries or significant damage.
The quake occurred just after midnight in Beatty, Nye County, approximately 120 miles northeast of Las Vegas, according to the U.S. Geological Survey. It was recorded at a depth of 9 miles and centered about 29 miles southeast of the town.
The unincorporated community lies along Interstate 11, roughly 10 miles east of Death Valley National Park in eastern California.
Last month, an earthquake centered near Red Rock Canyon shook the Las Vegas Valley, causing no damage.
Quake history
Nevada’s seismic history includes numerous tremors. The largest recorded event in the state occurred in 1915, a magnitude 7.3 quake that struck about 50 miles south of Winnemucca. In May 2020, the magnitude 6.5 Monte Cristo earthquake shook the area near Tonopah. Since 1915, eight of Nevada’s biggest earthquakes have registered magnitude 6 or higher. Additionally, a magnitude 7.1 quake in Ridgecrest, California, rattled Las Vegas in July 2019.
