Record heatwave in South Korea as temperatures soar to 42.5C

South Korea is grappling with the impact of a blistering heatwave that has produced the nation’s highest ever temperatures. A record high of 42.5 °C was recorded on Sunday in the southern city of Yangsan, marking the country’s top temperature since modern record‑keeping began. At least 19 people have died during the heatwave, according to authorities. Seoul is currently under a severe heat warning for the first time under a strategy introduced this year by the government to address rising temperatures.
