Tesla plans to wind down production of its Cybertruck at Gigafactory Texas around the middle of next year, CEO Elon Musk said in a social media post. The Texas facility is the only location where the stainless-steel electric vehicle is built.
Musk said the move will make room for increased production of the Cybercab. The Cybertruck, which debuted with an unorthodox profile and polarizing appeal, never caught on with most buyers and sales declined almost from the moment it hit the market.
Kelley Blue Book estimated Cybertruck sales fell 48% from 2024 to 2025, and were down 28% from January through September of this year. Tesla does not break out sales by model.
The vehicle also faced quality-control issues with several recalls within months of its debut. Tesla and the Cybertruck became a political touchstone as Musk allied with President Donald Trump and right-leaning causes; European sales of Tesla vehicles tumbled 49% in the first two months of 2025 even as overall EV sales grew.
