Ofcom has levied a £630,000 fine against the operator of the pornographic website Fapello for failing to implement adequate age‑verification measures. The regulator stated that, since July 2025, sites offering adult content—including pornography—must employ “highly effective” age assurance to confirm that UK visitors are at least 18 years old. According to Ofcom, Fapello introduced no verification checks and did not respond to requests for information.
George Lusty, manager of enforcement at Ofcom, declared, “Age checks are nary longer optional for porn sites successful the UK,” and added, “They are a cornerstone of our laws to support children from contented they should not beryllium seeing.”
The investigation into Fapello commenced in November. On Thursday Ofcom announced a £600,000 penalty for the absence of age‑checking methods. After the company continued to ignore information requests, a further £30,000 penalty was applied, bringing the total to £630,000.
