SOUTH WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. — For the second straight year, a Nevada team is advancing to the Little League World Series U.S. championship game after Paseo Verde secured a 14‑6 victory over Davenport Northwest of Iowa on Wednesday at Lamade Stadium.
A four‑run fourth inning broke open a pitcher’s duel, giving the Henderson‑based squad the edge. Paseo Verde added nine more runs in the top of the sixth to finish the scoring.
The win improves Paseo Verde to 3‑0 in Williamsport and sets up a Saturday showdown against the winner of the loser’s bracket. Iowa will face the victor of the Hamilton, Ohio versus Phenix City, Alabama matchup on Thursday.
Iowa starter Cooper Thissen departed after 65 pitches, having thrown 3.2 hitless innings with 10 strikeouts.
Paseo Verde’s offense erupted in the fourth with four hits and four runs, all coming with two outs, to take a 4‑0 lead. Right fielder Brooks McFarland broke the tie with a two‑run triple that was mishandled by the Iowa left fielder. Jace Ward followed with an RBI single and later scored on a chaotic pitch. It marked the first time any team had scored against Iowa in the tournament.
Maddox Bryan started for Paseo Verde, throwing 43 pitches over 2.1 innings and striking out three. Reliever Payton Hinsen added two strikeouts.
Iowa responded with six runs in the bottom of the sixth.
Paseo Verde is the third Nevada squad ever to reach the U.S. championship game and the second consecutive year for the state, following Summerlin South’s appearance in the LLWS final last season.
