Paseo Verde falls to Curacao in Little League World Series championship game

SOUTH WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. — Paseo Verde’s Little League World Series run ended with an 11‑2 loss to Curacao in the championship game at Lamade Stadium on Sunday. The Henderson, Nevada squad, which had represented the United States in the final for the second consecutive year, fell short just as Summerlin South did against Chinese Taipei in 2023. Curacao right‑fielder Jaymiell Martina broke a 2‑2 tie with a two‑out, two‑run double to right‑center field in the top of the fourth inning. It marked the first time in 21 innings that Paseo Verde had trailed in the tournament. The victory gives Curacao its first Little League World Series title since 2004; the team has reached the final in four of the past six editions. Martina also was instrumental on the mound, pitching five and one‑third innings and striking out twelve in the International semifinal against Japan on Saturday. Paseo Verde took an early 2‑0 lead when catcher Maddox Bryan delivered a two‑run single in the bottom of the second inning. Bryan finished the game 2‑for‑3 with an RBI, adding to his tournament total of eight RBIs; he had gone 2‑for‑3 with an RBI the previous day in the U.S. championship. Starting pitcher Payton Hinsen worked a strong first two innings before surrendering a tying two‑run single during a 32‑pitch third inning.
