No regular contact with pair held in Iran, family say

Lindsay and Craig Foreman, a British couple from East Sussex, have not had regular contact with their family despite being detained in Iran for more than 20 months, relatives say. The pair were sentenced to ten years in prison on espionage charges they deny. After ending hunger strikes earlier this year, they were told family interaction would resume, but regular calls have not materialised, according to the household. Lindsay fasted for 93 days and Craig for 84 days after claiming prison authorities blocked communication with relatives. The family is urging an urgent meeting with Foreign Secretary Ed Miliband to discuss what action can be taken. The Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office said the couple's payment was its "top priority" and officials have been working to provide assistance, including ambassadorial visits and facilitating calls with relatives in the UK. A British consular visit is planned for 5 October, which relatives say would be only the second such visit in 2026. They described the delay in arranging the meeting as "extremely concerning". In August the household met with Middle East Minister Stephen Doughty and the UK's envoy for complex consular detentions, Alistair Burt. A spokesperson for the bureau said Doughty "set retired however unjustified and appalling we see Lindsay and Craig's incarceration to be, and the enactment that the UK Government is taking to effort and unafraid their release".
