No. 2 Bishop Gorman outlasts No. 1 St. John Bosco after losing 21-0 lead
Bishop Gorman, ranked No. 2 nationally by MaxPreps, defeated top‑ranked St. John Bosco 38‑28 at Fertitta Field in front of a standing‑room‑only crowd exceeding 5,000 on the Gorman campus.
The victory marked the third all‑time meeting between the programs and the first since 2016. Bishop Gorman entered the contest with a 2‑0 record, while St. John Bosco fell to 0‑1; the Gaels had won the two previous matchups.
Gorman will continue its rigorous out‑of‑state slate on Saturday, Aug. 29, when the team travels to Florida to face Columbus at 11 a.m. PT. The game will be televised nationally on ESPN2 as part of the Broward County National Football Showcase in Fort Lauderdale.
The Gaels built a 21‑0 halftime advantage, limiting St. John Bosco to a mere 35 yards of total offense in the opening two quarters. The Bosco offense responded in the second half, scoring to tie the game at 28‑28 late in the fourth quarter.
Corey Hinton Jr. secured the win with a 54‑yard reception from junior quarterback Ace Amina in the final period. Amina, who started at quarterback for Gorman after a week‑long rotation that included Kansas commit and California transfer Chance Thomas against Losee, delivered two touchdown passes in the first half. One of those strikes was an 8‑yard completion to Noah Cole on the game’s opening drive.
Gorman’s decisive break came on the ensuing St. John Bosco possession when the Gaels forced a fumble on a partial sack and recovered it in the end zone, extending the lead to 14‑0 with 6:35 remaining in the first quarter.
