Nevada Preps Girls Athlete of the Week poll results
Update, Aug. 27: Olivia Gastwirth of Palo Verde High School was voted the Las Vegas Review‑Journal Girls Prep Athlete of the Week.
Olivia Gastwirth, Palo Verde girls soccer: 5,854 votes, 95.6 percent.
Aislin McMahon, Sky Point cross country: 103 votes, 1.7 percent.
Aaliyah Jones, Las Vegas High School volleyball: 88 votes, 1.4 percent.
Averie Gidge, Sierra Vista volleyball: 77 votes, 1.3 percent.
Total responses: 6,122.
Voting for this week’s nominees closed at noon Thursday, with results released Friday.
The nominees, recognized for standout performances from Aug. 17‑22, are:
**Olivia Gastwirth, Palo Verde girls soccer** – She scored four goals and added an assist in the Panthers’ 12‑0 victory over Bonanza on Tuesday, bringing her season totals to six goals and two assists.
**Averie Gidge, Sierra Vista girls volleyball** – The sophomore recorded 20 kills, seven digs and three blocks in a four‑set win over Legacy on Thursday; she now has 92 kills and 41 digs through eight matches this season.
**Aaliyah Jones, Las Vegas High girls volleyball** – The senior tallied 24 kills, seven digs and three aces in the Wildcats’ 3‑1 win against Cheyenne on Wednesday, leading Las Vegas with 83 kills for the year.
**Aislin McMahon, Sky Pointe cross country** – The senior won the 5‑kilometer race at the Red Rock Running Company Invitational on Saturday in 18 minutes, 15 seconds, finishing 35 seconds ahead of the runner‑up.
