Monzo experienced a service disruption that prevented some customers from using their cards for payments or transfers. The bank posted on X that it had identified “some issues” and activated a standby backup service, which it said would allow users to continue making card payments, sending and receiving bank transfers, and other transactions.
However, several users replied to the post noting that the Monzo Standby service was “not moving as expected” and that they remained unable to use their cards. Monzo added that it was “rolling out a fix and moving quickly to get full service back up and running for everyone.”
The British digital bank, launched in 2015 as a “new kind of bank” that replaced physical branches with a mobile‑first app, now reports more than 16 million personal and business customers worldwide.
While the backup service appears to be functioning for some users, others continue to report problems. One X user wrote, “I can't usage my paper for thing astatine the moment,” posted 1 X user. Another commented, “Your “backup” slope does not person the functionality you authorities it does. I can't marque slope transfers close now,” said another.
The incident remains under investigation as Monzo works to restore normal operation for all affected customers.
