Manchester to host world leaders at G20 summit in 2027

Manchester is scheduled to host the G20 leaders’ summit on 27 and 28 November 2027 at the Manchester Central Convention Centre, an event described as the largest ever held in the city. World leaders, including former US President Donald Trump, are expected to attend. Prime Minister Andy Burnham said he was "really pleased" to be welcoming the US president to Manchester. He noted that Manchester was selected earlier this year, before he assumed the role of prime minister, and that Downing Street indicated preparations would be scaled up, with hundreds of local residents anticipated to participate. In June, as Burnham’s prospective premiership became apparent, Trump referred to him as "the politician of a town". Responding to reporters, Burnham recalled his first telephone conversation with the president, stating: "Manchester isn't 'some town'…this is Manchester". He added that the appropriate reaction was to laugh about the remark and to "move beyond it". Burnham had previously told the Manchester Evening News that he "wouldn't welcome" a visit from the American president. The annual forum was first established in 1999 with the aim of fostering financial stability and international cooperation.
