Manchester United confirm they have borrowed another £90m since 30 June, to take their overall debt to more than £1.1bn.

Manchester United borrowed another £90m since 30 June and confirmed they spent £191.7m on new players this summer. The club acquired Andrey Santos from Chelsea on 13 July, Youri Tielemans from Aston Villa on 14 July and Carlos Baleba from Brighton on 25 August. The fees United stated they spent on the trio at the time the transfers were announced totalled £153m, leaving the destination of the additional sum unclear. United has been approached for comment. Confirmation of the further £90m borrowing appeared in a more detailed filing to the New York Stock Exchange on Thursday, following Wednesday’s release of the 2025‑26 accounts to 30 June. The filing showed overall indebtedness remained above £1bn despite the cost‑cutting measures introduced by Sir Jim Ratcliffe after he became majority owner in 2024. United said it made three further drawdowns from its revolving credit facility on 29 July, 31 July and 28 August, amounting to £120m. It subsequently repaid £30m on 21 September. Total indebtedness now stands at £1.15bn, comprising £578m of historical debt, £200m outstanding on the revolving credit facility and £375m in outstanding transfer fees. That figure represents a £72m reduction from the £447m United reported as owed in transfer fees for the 2024‑25 accounts. Nevertheless, the liability remains significant, with £104.8m due between one and two years, £51.9m due between two and five years and the balance payable within the next 12 months. The club noted that payments for their most recent transfers “are owed within the next 5 years.”
