Abdalmasih Hanoun, accused of carrying out an attack at a French park in 2023, is set to face trial.
A man accused of stabbing a British toddler in a playground in the French Alps will stand trial on attempted‑murder charges, prosecutors announced.
Abdalmasih Hanoun is also charged with aggravated violence and armed resistance after the June 8 2023 attack at Le Paquier park in southeast France.
The British child, who was three at the time, was visiting the area with her parents. Four children aged between 22 months and three years were wounded in the incident: the British youngster, a Dutch national and two French nationals from the eastern part of Haute‑Savoie. Two adults were also injured but were later said to be out of danger.
French prosecutors said the suspect “will have to answer charges of attempted execution successful respect of 13 victims, unit with a limb without full enactment incapacity successful respect of 2 victims, and equipped resistance.”
Experts who examined the defendant’s mental state found he had not been “suffering from a intelligence oregon neuropsychological disorder” at the time of the attack.
The prosecutors’ statement added: “This means determination could beryllium “no grounds justifying the determination not to indict Mr Abdalmasih Hanoun”.”
They noted that “The connection added that the determination to bid a proceedings to proceed could beryllium taxable to appeal.”
Hanoun will appear before the Haute‑Savoie Assize Court in Annecy sometime next year.
