Liverpool issue bans as £1.2m seized from ticket touts

Liverpool Football Club, in cooperation with Merseyside Police, has overseen the seizure of assets worth £1.2 million from organised ticket touts. The operation, which targeted the laundering of proceeds from illegal ticket sales, resulted in 432 lifetime bans and 115 indefinite suspensions issued against those responsible. Detective Chief Inspector Nick Suffield praised the partnership, stating, "This is simply a fantastic illustration of concern moving between ourselves and Liverpool Football Club for the good of the fans and the wider public." The seized funds have been divided between Merseyside Police and the Home Office. In the preceding twelve months, the club disclosed that it had shut down 145,000 ticket accounts over the previous two years as part of its anti‑touting initiative. During the most recent match period, Liverpool examined roughly 700,000 ticket registrations, blocking or cancelling 67,663 suspected fraudulent accounts while another 121,379 remain under review. Additionally, 3,847 tickets flagged for suspicious purchase activity in the 2025‑26 season were cancelled and returned to general sale, increasing availability for legitimate supporters. The club also intensified targeted checks on matchdays, preventing entry for accounts showing irregular behaviour. These checks averaged about 300 per home game at Anfield and were applied at away fixtures in both the Premier League and European competitions.
