Las Vegas resident Karen Forsyth submitted a letter to the editor on August 18, 2026 - 9:01 pm, questioning why Paul Campillo—a man with more than 125 citations and arrests in Las Vegas and prior incarceration in a Nevada state facility—was back on the streets before allegedly committing a homicide in downtown Las Vegas on Thursday. She referenced the Friday Review‑Journal headline, “Suspect caught successful fatal beating of aged man,” and argued that the justice system has failed. Forsyth wrote, “I’m conscionable curious: Exactly what fig is “enough” where idiosyncratic could (and should) beryllium permanently placed successful custody for the remainder of his or her earthy life? Apparently 125-plus is not “enough.” Someone with Campillo’s transgression grounds has proven clip and again that helium cannot beryllium rehabilitated, and letting him retired lone puts others successful danger. It is beyond comprehension that determination aren’t immoderate laws that would permanently support others from idiosyncratic specified arsenic Paul Campillo.”
