Law enforcement personnel, public mourn slain Las Vegas officer — WATCH LIVE

Law enforcement officials and members of the public gathered Friday to pay their final respects to Officer Austin Abdelnabi of the Metropolitan Police Department, who was shot eight times while responding to a call about an armed individual on East Tropicana Avenue on August 4. Angel Lucas‑Lindsey, 21, opened fire near the 5400 block of Mountain Vista Street and Interstate 11, striking Abdelnabi multiple times. Last Friday, hundreds attended a vigil honoring the decorated Marine, a native of South Carolina, as speakers repeatedly praised his bravery, passion and dedication to service. The funeral procession began at Palm Mortuary‑Jones, 1600 S. Jones Blvd., at 9 a.m., proceeded toward downtown, traveled south past Harry Reid International Airport, then turned east onto Interstate 215 en route to the Central Church at 1001 New Beginnings Drive in Henderson. Gov. Joe Lombardo, who previously oversaw the Metro Police Department as Clark County sheriff, ordered flags to be lowered to half‑staff in advance of the service. “Officer Abdelnabi made the eventual sacrifice in work to his state and his community, and Nevada will never hide his courage,” Lombardo said in a press release. “He dedicated his life to protecting others, and his loss is felt profoundly by each of us. We will continue to honor his memory, stand with his family and loved ones, and support the brothers and sisters in law enforcement who served alongside him.”
