Korean Air’s 20-year Las Vegas run helps chart global air service growth

Korean Air marked two decades of service between Las Vegas and Seoul with a celebration at Harry Reid International Airport on Tuesday. Passengers on the inbound flight were greeted by showgirls and champagne as the airline observed its 20‑year milestone. The carrier, one of the longest‑standing long‑haul operators at the airport, began with three weekly flights in September 2006. Frequency grew to five per week before launching daily nonstop service in November 2024. Each day, Flight 5 lands shortly after 4 p.m. after an 11‑hour journey from Incheon International aboard a twin‑engine Boeing 777. Flight 6 departs just before midnight for the 12‑ to 13‑hour return to Seoul. Korean Air’s gradual expansion—starting slow and adding flights as demand rose—has become a model for other international carriers serving Las Vegas. Earlier this year, Air France launched a similar Paris‑Las Vegas route using the same incremental approach. The airline leverages Incheon’s hub advantages, including an adjacent Walkerhill‑branded hotel, where rooms are rented in six‑hour blocks for travelers with layovers.
