Las Vegas Raiders quarterback Kirk Cousins and offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak spoke to reporters Sunday after the team suffered a 45-17 defeat to the New England Patriots at Gillette Stadium. The loss dropped the Raiders to 0-1 on the season.
Cousins was pulled in the second half with the game out of reach, paving the way for rookie Fernando Mendoza to make his NFL regular-season debut. The No. 1 overall draft pick had been serving as Cousins' backup.
The Raiders were without starting running back Ashton Jeanty, who was listed as available but did not prevent the offense from being overwhelmed. New England secured the victory despite playing without star cornerback Christian Gonzalez and three other cornerbacks.
Kubiak, who brought an "E.A.T." motto with him from his time as Seattle's offensive coordinator, faced questions about the unit's performance. Special teams coach Joe DeCamillis also referenced criticism from a podcast regarding a fake punt allowed against Kansas City in a previous game.
