Police in Baltimore have said the young girl was not a target of the shooting but was caught in the crossfire.

Baltimore police are investigating a shooting that left a 12‑year‑old girl dead after a dispute over a parking space escalated into gunfire in a city park where children were playing American football. The girl was caught in the crossfire between two men who were allegedly arguing over the space. A second female suffered gunshot wounds, and two men sought treatment at local hospitals for injuries related to the shooting. Authorities are seeking at least two suspects. Baltimore Police Commissioner Richard Worley said, “What we know is there was some kind of statement between 2 cowards,” Worley said. “They both opened fire on each other. In the crossfire, a 12‑year‑old little girl, who was most likely down there watching football, was shot and killed.” He added that the girl, whose name has not been released, was not the intended target. The three other wounded individuals have non‑life‑threatening injuries. The incident occurred after 18:00 EDT (23:00 BST) on Saturday. Authorities continue to investigate and have asked any witnesses to come forward with information. Mayor Brandon Scott remarked, “Two grown men got into an argument, and now a 12‑year‑old is gone,” Baltimore Mayor Brandon Scott said at the press conference. He added, “We never should have to say something like that. What happened out here today is one of the most disgusting things I've ever seen in my life.”
