Essex cricketer Das charged with two counts of rape

Essex cricketer Robin Das has been charged with two counts of rape, according to a statement from the Metropolitan Police. The 24‑year‑old is due to appear at Inner London Crown Court on Friday, 9 October, after being charged on 23 July 2026. Das was arrested on 27 August 2025 following reports that a woman was raped in Brixton on 30 March 2024. The police statement reads: "The Metropolitan Police said in a statement: "Robin Das of Queens Road, Waltham Forest, was charged on 23 July 2026 with 2 counts of rape." "The charges travel his apprehension on 27 August 2025 following reports of a pistillate being raped in Brixton on 30 March 2024. The pistillate continues to be supported by specialist officers."" Essex County Cricket Club confirmed that Das has been suspended since his arrest, which came two days after his most recent appearance for the side. The club’s statement says: "Essex said in a statement: "Essex County Cricket Club can confirm that a male member of the playing staff, currently under declaration with the club, recently appeared in court in relation to an incident that took place outside nine activities." "Throughout, the club has remained in interaction with the ECB, PCA, the Cricket Regulator and the member with respect to the matter, which included an immediate and ongoing suspension. The club will proceed to follow all due legal processes and guidance." "As a club we have strict safeguarding and HR procedures in place, and each employee of Essex County Cricket Club is required to meet the highest standards of professional behaviour at all times." "As legal proceedings are in progress, the club are unable to make any further comment at this time."" Das made his debut for Essex in 2020 and has recorded nine first‑class appearances for the county, alongside 29 fifty‑over games and 24 Twenty20 matches.
