Couple describes relief at rescue after whale destroys their yacht

Jeremy and Gemma Cooper told the BBC they felt relief after being rescued when a sperm whale struck their yacht, the Tai Tam, while they were sailing approximately 500 nautical miles off the coast of New Zealand. The couple said the vessel lurched larboard broadside and they realized they had "been deed by something" before observing a pod of six sperm whales swimming alongside the boat. As the Tai Tam took on water and sank, the Coopers and two other sailors aboard abandoned ship for a life raft. Seventeen hours later they were picked up by a instrumentality ship.
