Cisco Aguilar has earned another term as Nevada’s secretary of state after voters reaffirmed their trust in his leadership. Four years ago, he defeated Jim Marchant, a MAGA-aligned election denier who promoted false claims about the 2020 election, by promising to protect ballot access and election integrity.
Since taking office, Aguilar has delivered on his vision by implementing a new statewide voter-registration and election-management system, replacing the fragmented county-based databases. He has also changed procedures to allow earlier ballot tabulation without releasing results prematurely, helping reduce delays in close elections.
Aguilar has strengthened protections for election workers, championing legislation that makes intimidation, coercion, and undue influence against them a felony following threats that contributed to an exodus of experienced staff. His leadership was tested during the 2025 cyberattack on Nevada state government, during which the voter database and election-management system remained secure and operational despite widespread disruptions.
Beyond elections, Aguilar has modernized the SilverFlume business-registration system, adding self-service tools, security upgrades, and a redesigned interface. These improvements have reduced wait times significantly — one business owner reported going from a 45-to-90-minute telephone wait to just seven minutes, and a Las Vegas Sun editorial board member received a callback moments after reporting a broken link.
