2 Las Vegas men face up to five years in prison for aiming laser pointer at police helicopter

Two Las Vegas men, James Bodie Moore III and Jason Lamars Lee, were indicted on federal charges after allegedly aiming laser pointers at police helicopters, the Department of Justice announced. According to the DOJ, Moore appeared in court on Monday and faces up to five years in prison if convicted of aiming a laser beam multiple times at and along the flight path of a Metropolitan Police Department helicopter on April 10. Lee also appeared that day and is accused of aiming a laser beam “two times” at and along the flight path of a Metro police helicopter on June 7. Both men have trials scheduled for September. Pointing a laser at an aircraft is a federal offense under the FAA Modernization and Reform Act of 2012. A separate Las Vegas man was sentenced to nine months in prison for pointing a laser at a police helicopter past Wednesday. The Federal Aviation Administration reported that pilots logged 10,993 laser strikes nationwide in 2025.
