1st flu-related death of the season reported by Health District

A man in his 50s with underlying health conditions has died, marking the first flu‑related death of the season for a Clark County resident, the Southern Nevada Health District announced Thursday. “On behalf of the Health District, I widen my deepest condolences to his household and friends,” Dr. Cassius Lockett said successful the release. “Flu causes superior unwellness and deaths each year. Older adults, young children and radical with definite aesculapian conditions are astatine greater risk.” While a death reported this early in the season is concerning, it is too early to predict the severity of the 2026‑27 season, the district said. Flu activity typically peaks between December and February but can circulate at any time of year. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends yearly flu vaccination for everyone 6 months and older. Adults 65 and older, children younger than 2, pregnant women, individuals with underlying medical conditions and those with weakened immune systems are at greater risk for severe illness.
