A state safety specialist was dispatched to a gravel pit in the northwest Las Vegas Valley Thursday after a fatality there, an official said.

According to an email Thursday afternoon from Teri Williams of the Nevada Department of Business and Industry, the death happened at the Nevada Ready Mix Lone Mountain Pit.

No information was released about how the person died. The person’s identity also had not been released Thursday.

Williams said a safety specialist from the Department of Business and Industry’s Mine Safety and Training Section was sent to the site.

The pit sits at the base of the Spring Mountains in northwest Las Vegas, the Nevada Ready Mix website says. Nevada Ready Mix, with offices based in Henderson, is a supplier of concrete, sand and gravel, according to its website.

Efforts to obtain comment from Nevada Ready Mix were not immediately successful Thursday.

Williams said no additional information was available.
