Todd Cutler will not be new head of NIAA, ‘unable to come to agreement’

Lake Tahoe Unified School District Superintendent Todd Cutler will not assume the role of enforcement manager for the Nevada Interscholastic Activities Association after failing to reach agreement on contract terms, Cutler and the NIAA confirmed to the Review‑Journal on Thursday night. The decision comes nearly 24 hours after Cutler was selected as the association’s next enforcement director during a vote that ended 7‑5 in his favor at the NIAA Board of Control’s fall meeting held Wednesday at Bishop Gorman. In an email to the Review‑Journal, Cutler stated, “The NIAA and I were unable to reach agreement and I will not be accepting the role.” He offered no further explanation for the impasse. NIAA interim enforcement manager Sean FitzSimons echoed the sentiment in his own email, noting that “two parties could not reach a mutual agreement on the terms of the contract.” FitzSimons also said he did not have an update on whether NIAA assistant manager Cate Sgroi, who finished as the first runner‑up in the same vote, will become the new enforcement director. Cutler had been slated to succeed Timothy Jackson, who vacated the enforcement manager post on Aug. 1 after two years in the position.
