NIAA moves football state title games at Allegiant Stadium to F1 weekend

The Nevada Interscholastic Activities Association has moved the football state championship games at Allegiant Stadium to the Formula 1 weekend in Las Vegas. NIAA members unanimously approved shifting the contests from Tuesday, Nov. 24, to Friday, Nov. 20 during the association’s autumn Board of Control meeting held Tuesday at Bishop Gorman. Allegiant Stadium will host the Open Division, Class 5A, Class 3A and Class 1A state title games on Nov. 20. NIAA officials told the Board that the Las Vegas Raiders informed them Allegiant Stadium would be unavailable on Nov. 24, prompting the date change. For the previous three seasons, the NIAA has scheduled its state title games at Allegiant Stadium on the Tuesday following the Formula 1 race, citing high hotel rates for traveling schools as the reason.
