LETTER: Reeves played the right way

David A. Meckley of Las Vegas wrote on September 23, 2026 at 9:00 p.m. that he contributes to the RJ sports conception, where he announces the status of Ryan Reaves. The announcement led him to consider Reaves’ tenure with the Knights. Meckley said his impressions stem from watching Reaves play, from interviews and articles about him, and from observing how he interacts with teammates and others. He described Reaves as an average player who did not score frequently, did not skate exceptionally fast, and was not a standout hockey talent. Nevertheless, Meckley noted that Reaves exhibited qualities that attracted people to him. Other players appeared to enjoy being around him and valued his play. He characterized Reaves as skilled at retaining the puck along the boards until he could pass it to a teammate or simply stall the play until it could be advanced—a seemingly minor action that often proved decisive in games. Meckley emphasized Reaves’ loyalty to his teammates, stating he never saw him respond in a brutal manner while protecting his fellow players. He added that Reaves was consistently present to help others, exemplified by his participation in events raising money alongside police officers, firefighters, and similar groups. Meckley observed that Reaves never seemed to leave Las Vegas even after being traded. In Meckley’s view, Mr. Reaves is a hard‑working, trusted, loyal, and dependable individual who will be there when circumstances become difficult. He said he knows many people but few whom he would call a friend and rely on in times of need, and he believes Reaves fits that description for those who know him. Meckley wished him the best as he moves beyond hockey, calling him one of the “good” ones and offering his support.
