Henderson Police are reminding motorists and passengers that wearing a seat belt is the law as their new initiative focuses on safety, according to a news release.
The department’s seat belt initiative began today and continues through May 26, the release stated.
Henderson Police officers will be out in force looking for motorists and passengers not buckled up during this enhanced enforcement effort.
Officers will use saturation patrols throughout the city to stop vehicles for traffic violations, and then check for seat belt use, as seat belt violations are a secondary offense in Nevada, the release stated.
Seat belts help prevent drivers and passengers from being ejected from vehicles in the event of a crash. According to the CDC, seat belts reduce serious crash-related injuries and deaths by about half.
