This seasonal retailer takes over empty stores nationwide to sell Halloween merchandise for a few months before the Oct. 31 holiday and then splits.

Spirit Halloween has taken over the former Whole Foods Market at 8855 W. Charleston Boulevard in the Crossroads Commons mall near Summerlin. The seasonal retailer, known for its orange banners and short‑term leases, opened the costume shop in the vacant supermarket space that had been empty since the grocer relocated in spring 2025. Whole Foods first opened at the corner of Charleston Boulevard and Fort Apache Road in 2003. After drawing steady crowds for more than two decades, the upscale chain moved to a newly built retail plaza three miles away at Sahara Avenue and Town Center Drive, leaving the 39,000‑square‑foot facility vacant. Spirit Halloween, which operates more than 1,500 pop‑up locations across North America, now fills the space with costumes, decorations, animatronics and other Halloween merchandise. The company typically signs three‑month leases and runs its stores from approximately September 1 through November 1. A statement on the retailer’s website reads, “Conjuring up a small Halloween magic, Spirit Halloween can take your vacant store and – presto! – make it ‘So Much Fun, It’s Scary!’” Ted Baker of NewMarket Commercial Real Estate Advisors noted via email that his team was not permitted to comment on the arrangement. Las Vegas city records do not yet indicate whether a permanent tenant is being pursued for the site. The temporary occupancy has also sparked online humor, referencing a recent trailer for the remake of *The Naked Gun* starring Liam Neeson, in which a Spirit Halloween banner is hoisted over a shuttered police station entrance.
