The bladder stone, which weighs as much as a full-term baby, is believed to be the largest on record.
Doctors at a Trincomalee hospital removed a 3.1‑kilogram (6.8‑pound) bladder stone from a 55‑year‑old man, saying it may be the largest ever recorded.
The operation took place last week at the facility in the eastern part of Sri Lanka.
The patient had been admitted after suffering a stroke; while undergoing treatment, clinicians noticed difficulty urinating and discovered stones in his urinary bladder.
During the procedure the stone was extracted; it weighed as much as a full‑term newborn and was roughly the size of an ostrich egg.
"According to disposable records, it is the largest bladder chromatic ever documented and removed done surgery," Dr Prahalahan Balakrishnan, who led the surgery, told BBC Sinhala.
He added that the patient was in "very bully health".
The man remains hospitalized and continues to receive care for his other medical conditions, doctors said.
Dr Balakrishnan also noted that the stone likely had been present in the bladder for about five to ten years.
